I am 38, a wife, stay at home mom of 3 (8,11 and 17) and a former fitness fanatic. I became a certified personal trainer 13 years ago, mostly to drive myself to keep in shape.
This brought on a kind of obsession with having a perfect body; not to mention thinking I had to be a perfect mother, wife, homemaker, daughter, etc...
Luckily the Lord showed me that I was making an idol out of fitness and my self-image, which I was so pre-occupied with. He showed me that we are not to get our self-image from what we do (work, hobbies), what we accomplish, what we look like etc... But we are to get our idenity from Him. I still believe we are to be healthy and fit and eat sensibly out of obedience to the Lord.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have recieved from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Cor. 6:19-20.
Now with that same zeal I had for fitness, I now pursue my relationship with Christ. With that same zeal to get others motivated to better their bodies, I now long to motivate others to grow in the Lord and to pursue the narrow path that He has called us to walk.
