Changes

Today was a momentous day for us. My mother-in-law moved in with us. It's been a whirlwind of activity this week and, frankly, I'm pooped!! We made the decision that she should be with us on Sunday and then on Monday we had to start moving my husband's office out of the spare bedroom and into the living room. We have both a living room and family room, so we will still have a main gathering spot for the family. Tuesday, we were still moving stuff and getting things set up. Wednesday, my son and a friend moved the heavy stuff out of her house that she wanted and continued to set the office up. Thursday, we painted her new bedroom (a beautiful soft, cream color that I got on the "ooops" table at Home Depot for $5.00!!). My son had to go to his college class, so I started on the walls and rolled what I could. He stayed up until midnight last night to finish painting because we wanted to get her moved into the house today. We shampooed the carpets today, moved in the heavy furniture we had all ready brought here and ran a new cable for the TV set to that room. Finally, we went and got her - her bed, shelf, rocker, and all her personal things and she's in her new room sleeping peacefully. :)

Our house is a total wreck. I did clean the bathroom (that she will be using along with my boys) and I cleaned the family room so it is at least clean, but everything else is a mess. I really do not like moving stuff and trying to figure out where we're going to put it all. It's very frustrating and I know I'll probably be working with all this stuff for a week. It's not hard - just very time consuming.

I'm ready to fall into bed - I'm SO tired - so will sign off. I really will get those pictures up I've been promising and share more , but I just need to sleep at this point!

God bless you - Julie

  1. I am so thankful your MIL was able to move in with you. There will be tests and trials but I still believe our family belongs with us. Mother is in a nursing home after a massive stroke. It has always been my goal to bring her home but she has needed 24 hour care for the last 10 years. You have done a good thing. Please ask for help when needed. If not you won't be here to help her if she lives a long time. Many blessings to you.

  2. Dear Julie,
What a beautiful act of kindness you are doing for your mil. There are will be so many adjustments to be made by her and your family as well, in the next couple of weeks and months. May the Lord of all hope and peace give you all the extra strength to face the days ahead. May He shower your home with His Shalom.

  3. Thank you, Rita! I will definitely ask for help when I need it. It's a huge undertaking, but one that I'm sure God has called us to do. :) He will give us the strength and I will rest in Him.

I am so sorry about your Mom. It's hard to see our parents getting older and failing.

    God bless you - Julie

  4. It is the right thing to do. WE cast our family off to easily these days. My mom keeps saying "put me in a home when it is time", but I have worked in those homes and there is NO WAY she is going in one as long as I can help it. Same for my Kyle. He will be with us for our entire lives and that is ok....I will never be an empty nester, but that seems to be abnormal anyway!

  5. What a blessing you are. I know it is difficult when two families live together. Maybe this will make things easier having her there. It is such a big job moving and painting but I am sure her room looks lovely.

    Can't beat $5 a gallon either.

    Rest well my dear friend!
