Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

The Counting Our Blessings Linkup is such an important part of my blog. It's something that defines not only my blog but my life...looking and focusing on blessings. It's not always easy but it's important for my mental well-being. It keeps me focused on my faith in Jesus and that's the most important thing in my life.

It's been extremely hot here and we have been under a heat advisory.  Instead of it cooling down at night as normal, it''s even quite warm at night.  On the evenings that it's not, though, I'm so thankful to be able to sit on my deck and look at the mountains. It's such a calming feeling.

I sit out here and pray to the Lord and always feel much better. I'm so blessed to have such a beautiful view and Someone to talk to anytime I want.  😊

My son made me this beautiful bird house! I absolutely love it and it's hanging at the end of my deck near the food and water for the birds.

I love how he burns the wood as a finish.  It shows off the grain of the wood so beautifully! I know the birds are going to love making their home in this wonderful house.

These lilies were a gift from someone at my son's work. I have enjoyed them so much! They have been blooming non-stop for weeks and bring me such joy!

She gave us a lot of things for our yard including bushes, trees and garlic. I wanted to thank her for all her kindness and so I made her this for her home.

The roses and rose buds are a deep purple that doesn't show up that great in this picture.  It's her favorite color so I wanted to make it personal for her.  I hope she likes it.

What would have taken me maybe an afternoon to paint, this welcome sign took me over a week.  Recovery from cancer and chemo is a very slow process and I'm exhausted every day. I don't feel well most days but I'm thankful for the fact that I'm in remission and that I WILL get better.  I have faith that the Lord has a plan for me - just like He has a plan for you!

Please share your blessing on the linkup below. It can be something you made, something that blessed you, an article that encourages, or anything that will bless others. Thank you for being a part of my blog!

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

Hello friends.  I hope you are keeping safe and enjoying your time at home. I have been self-isolating for so long because of the chemo, this doesn't seem strange to me.

It's been two weeks since my surgery and I'm doing pretty good.  I'm still very tired and having some pain, but I can handle all this as I know it will pass.

Many of you know that my husband was in the hospital for seven weeks before Christmas and have been asking me how he's doing. He has his up and down days. They gave him medications that he should have never had and it has done something to his brain. He has problems with hallucinations and getting confused. Some days, he's very lucid and those are the days that give us hope that he will completely recover from this. We are working with him every day to help him and I am so very blessed to have my sons to help me. They are here all the time to help me because I couldn't take care of him on my own.  Please pray for my husband, David - for a miracle and his complete healing

My youngest son got me these adorable cactus. I have always loved cactus and these just brightened my day

I have them on my desk where I an enjoy them all the time.

When I was in the hospital, I was so blessed to look out and see this view

Isn't that absolutely gorgeous? If you have to be in the hospital, it's nice to have a beautiful view!

It's also getting warm enough here that we set up our deck chairs today so we can start going out and enjoying the outdoors.  Honestly, I feel like I haven't sat in the sunshine for so long! I know it's going to do me good both physically and mentally.

The linkup is below and I hope you'll share a post from your own website or blog with others.  It's so great to be able to share our lives in this way and bless others with what we are up to.

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

It's been quite a while since I did the Counting Our Blessings Linkup but I thought today was the perfect time to restart our little linkup parties!

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer months ago (goodness, how many months? Seems a lifetime now) and that I started chemotherapy in October of last year. After six treatments, I had a pet scan and was told that they saw no cancer except in the uterus.  They did the hysterectomy last Tuesday, March 24th (exactly one month after my last chemo treatment) and, Praise God, they found no cancer anywhere except a small spot in my uterus - which is obviously gone now! Praise Jesus!! My doctor's were amazed and delighted. My Oncologist is a Christian man - a praying man - and that was such a blessing as I went into this battle. Prayer is one of the biggest weapons we have. Even when I wasn't able to pray for myself, I knew others were.

Honestly, I still haven't absorbed this. When I was told I had stage 4 uterine cancer - that it was aggressive - I didn't have a lot of hope that I would actually ever be cancer free. I'm still trying to really hold these words in my heart and accept them.  I know I am in remission and that I won't actually be considered healed until I'm cancer free for 5 years, but I am choosing to live in the moment and find joy that they found no cancer. This is such a huge, huge blessing and I thank the Lord every moment of every day for bringing about this miracle!

I lost my hair early on in the chemo but now it's coming back. Not only that, but it's coming in all white! My grandmother had and mother has the most beautiful white hair so I was really hoping I would get this gorgeous white hair, too. Please don't let this picture frighten you but I wanted to share that indeed my hair is coming back!

Can you see those little hairs? My son calls it's my newborn baby hair! 😂 You can see I have no eyebrows or eyelashes, but those, too, will return. To counteract this frightening picture, let me share a picture of my beautiful grandmother.

See what I mean about her gorgeous hair? So seeing my hair coming back is another blessing. When you lose your hair, it's hard to believe it's going to return but it is!

I had so many people praying for me. I received cards and gifts and words of encouragement and that was a blessing! To be remembered when you are going through something like cancer is really important. It's a lonely, isolating disease so to get emails, notes, and gifts is such an uplifting thing. Another wonderful blessing.

Speaking of isolating, I was isolating way before all this Coronavirus started. When your immune system is compromised, believe me, you stay home as much as possible. The fear of getting sick is something on one's mind constantly. So when all this started, I was a pro! I'm used to staying home and, thankfully, I'm a homebody and an introvert, so this has not been as hard for me as it might be for someone else.

I am so blessed by my sons, who have been with me through this every step of the way. My youngest son went with me to the hospital for my surgery but they had started the new rules of no one but the patient in the hospital. Oh my goodness, that was so hard for me. However, he stayed close by and I was treated so wonderfully by everyone in the hospital. It was quite eerie because there was hardly anyone there but I also got a lot of attention and it was a good experience. I did have to have a unit of blood but all went well and I only had to stay over night.  Another blessing!

I hope you'll participate in t he linkup. It's so wonderful to focus on our blessings and share them with others - especially right now when we are all needing a bit of encouragement. So share on the linky below a post from your own blog that will bless others!

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

Hello friends.  I hope you had a wonderful week full of blessings!

I was sent these beautiful flowers that my friend made me. They are made of paper! She is such an amazing artist and I am so blessed to have some of her gorgeous flowers. My arrangement does not do them justice but no matter how I put them in the vase, they just shine beauty! This is my very best friend who sent these to me and every time I look at them, I remember how blessed I am to have a friend like her. Thank you, Joyce, for blessing me with not only these flowers but a beautiful, soft wrap, turban and card. I love them all so much!!

This just makes me happy...

This is my planner and journal for 2020.  I love the new Wonder Woman movie and can't wait to see the new one next year. It makes me smile every time I look at these and will be cheerful as I go into the new year.

**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**
I had my third chemo treatment last week and it has been a tough week.  I've had some side effects, some not so bad,  and others are worse or new. They gave me a shot to boost my white blood cell count the day after my treatment and it has made everything worse. I won't do that again unless my life depends on it.

Since I have the third treatment done, I will be doing a CT scan next.  It's scheduled for Monday, December 16th at 11:00 mountain time. I would so appreciate you praying that the cancer spots on my liver and lung are gone so I can have my hysterectomy. She said that if it is clear, they would do the surgery at the end of this year or the beginning of 2020. I am so hoping and praying that the chemo has done it's job and that the spots are gone! Thank you so much for praying with me on this!

Now it's your turn to share your blessings! Please share on the linky below...

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving! There is so much to be thankful for even in the hard times. God blesses us all the time and I love that we focus on that through this linkup. 😊

I cooked for Thanksgiving and did it over four days. I knew if I took my time, I could do it! I ordered my groceries online and then all we had to do was pick them up. I love this service, especially right now when I can't do the shopping and I don't want to add to my husband's growing list. Our store does such a fantastic job and it's really a blessing having this service when you're unable to go to the store.  They even take our coupons so you save just as much as if you did it yourself. Yay!

The only down side to our Thanksgiving was that my oldest son got sick and couldn't come over. I had just had a phone call two days before telling me my white blood cell count was down to dangerous levels so I can't be around anyone sick for sure! I felt so bad that he couldn't come over as I was so looking forward to having my whole family around me. It was just one of those things that happens that makes one sad.

We had a wonderful meal and I was so thankful to have my husband and youngest son share in our bounty. Here's my turkey and it was so delicious!

We had this delicious turkey, homemade dressing (stuffing), creamed corn, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, marshmallow fluff salad, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie and chocolate pie. It was a feast!

I also made sure we took pictures this year. Sometimes I forget to take pictures of my family and then I feel so bad.  I even dressed up! 😂

Here's a picture of my husband and I.

The little hat I'm wearing was a gift from a new friend.  She sent me a huge box of beautiful hats and scarves and I have so enjoyed picking out a new one to wear all the time! Thank you to my new friend, Julie, for blessing me with such a beautiful gift!

This is my youngest son and me

He has been such a huge blessing to me. He takes of work every time I have to go and do chemo and he drives me there and then sits with me for seven or more hours while I have the drugs administered. He is truly a treasure!

Finally, one of my son and my husband

These two bless me in so many ways! My husband serves me with joy and cares of me in so many ways. I am so thankful for both these wonderful men!

Going through cancer and chemo treatments is something like going through fire. I am so thankful that God promises that He is with us when we go through things that feel like we will be overtaken.

I had my third chemo treatment yesterday. I went there wondering if I would be able to have it because the week before, as I said, my white blood count was dangerously low. They tried to get my insurance company to approve a shot that would help my body produce more white blood cells, however, with the holiday week, it didn't get approved. So when I went to my doctor's office (2 hours away, remember), I wasn't sure if I would be allowed to have this treatment. I had been praying the whole week before that my blood levels would be normal.  Not only was I praying, but my family and friends were praying, too.  God answered those prayers! When they did my blood test, my white blood count was back to normal! Only God! I am so thankful that He cares and blesses in so many ways.  It may seem strange that I actually wanted the chemo treatment, but my son takes off from work to take me and if I hadn't been able to have my treatment yesterday, I would have had to go back down again and he would have had to take off from work again.  Not only that, but I get so nervous before these chemo treatments that it's hard on me. Waiting to do it would have really given me great anxiety so it was such a wonderful blessing to just get it done!

So now we come to a cross road. They will be doing a ct scan on me in two weeks to see if those spots on my lung and liver are gone.  If they are, then we will do a hysterectomy and I feel like that would help me so much.  Right now, I am fighting against the very thing that is producing the cancer so to have that removed, would give me more of a fighting chance. So dear friends, that is my prayer request this week - that the ct scan will show those spots gone and then I can have surgery. They would do the surgery quite quickly so that made me feel better, as well.  Thank you so much for your prayers!

Again, I have been so blessed by friends who have sent me beautiful gifts! I will be sharing pictures of them with you soon.  Every time I receive a package or a card, it brightens my day so much! To be remembered as you're going through something like this brings a lightness to my heart and swells my heart with joy at being remembered and loved. Having cancer is isolating so these thoughtful gifts and cards help lighten that feeling.

What are your blessings this week? I hope you'll share on the linky below! Remember, it can be something you made, a celebration, a recipe, something you learned through Scripture, or anything that blessed you and will bless others.  Thank you for being a part of this linkup!

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

Dear friends,

This will be a rather short Counting Our Blessings as I'm still recovering from my second round of chemo. I will humbly ask for specific prayer at the end of this post but I want to count my blessings, first. 😊

My experience with this last treatment was quite a bit better. Between my pain management doctor and my Oncologist, I had the medications I needed to help with the pain and other symptoms. I won't lie and tell you I was fine - I wasn't - but at least I didn't end up in the ER this time. My biggest issue is the foot and ankle pain pain and I am so blessed to have a husband who rubs in pain cream and puts warm socks on my feet to help with the pain. He has even done it in the middle of the night when the pain became so horrible, I couldn't sleep. He is truly my biggest blessing!

I have seen this Scripture in action so many times as people who have gone through chemo have reached out to me in numerous ways. One kind friend talked to me about the medicines I needed to get through the first few days after my chemo treatment. Because of her guidance, I was able to ask for specific things to help me. Another new friend sent me a huge box full of beautiful hats and scarves! What an amazing surprise! Having others who have walked this road before me, help me and bless me in so many ways has helped me mentally and spiritually.

One of my son's co-workers had these made and his station is supporting me with prayer.

The whole station is wearing these bracelets and, the police department and fire department in the town his station is in, is also wearing them! My goodness - to have all this support...it just brings tears to my eyes and gives me the encouragement I need. They chose the Scripture

He had enough made for me to give to my family and friends as well. I am incredibly touched by this and so thankful.

On a light note, I got these cute earbuds. 😀

They came from Barnes & Noble and just made me smile! We all need silly things to just make us smile.

My prayer requests:
  1. That the chemo will eliminate the cancer on my lung and liver after the 3rd chemo treatment so I can have my hysterectomy.
  2. That my pain would subside and my weakness go away
  3. That the numbness in my fingertips would go away.
Thank you so much for your cards, emails, gifts, and prayers! I can't tell you how encouraging it is to have continued support and to be remembered in so many wonderful ways!

Now it's your turn to share your own blessings! Please feel free to share anything that is uplifting to you. It can be an encouraging blog post, a recipe, a craft,.. anything, that blesses!

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup!!

I had my second round of chemo yesterday on Monday. I've had two fairly decent weeks after the horrible week right after my last chemo treatment. I've been extremely tired, but I think that's just something that comes with this. My sleep has been off, with me being up all night and then sleeping during the day. This, too, is from the chemo.

One thing I've been doing is my quiet time in the middle of the night. It really is quiet! 😄 I always do my In Touch devotional from Charles Stanley and then add my Bible reading and other devotional readings. I've also been working on my gratitude book that my youngest son got me.

I also finished my hat that I was crocheting. I was spurred on because my hair is falling out in clumps now. It's been rather disconcerting but, again, it's part of the chemo. I made two roses for my hat as well - one pink and one turquoise. I will simply pin them on depending on what outfit I want to wear.

Here it is with the pink rose...

Here I am with my hat on with the blue rose.  My birthday was last Friday and I'm holding the beautiful cake my husband got for me. It was as delicious as it was pretty!

After my last surgery, I started a doily and have had it finished for quite some time. I wanted to share a picture of that, too.  I just love the texture in this doily! The first picture shows the texture so beautifully!

However, this is not the true color of the doily so I took a picture with a flash to show you the true color. It loses the detail but you can at least see the true blue color. 😊

I absolutely love it! I'm making another doily in pink that is oval but haven't worked on it for a while. It's quite tricky and I just don't have the energy for it right now. However, I'm working on my fall pumpkin doily and will try an finish it in time for Thanksgiving.  We shall see - it will really depend on how bad my side effects from the chemo are this time. It is what it is.

I feel like I'm going to be better prepared for this chemo treatment. I saw my pain management doctor and he put me on a regiment of pain medicine as well as nerve pain medicine. He also gave me lots of nausea medicine so I will be protected there, too. He told me to make sure I take everything the day of chemo and from then on for the hard days. I'm praying that this will stop the horrible pain I had last time and get me through those hard days better. My Oncologist also gave a me a couple new medicines to help with the side affects and to help me just sleep for those two really bad days. I was so nervous and anxious today that she gave me something in my IV to help me to calm down. I slept for 2 hours! Plus, I was very calm! lol 😂😉

Driving home from Phoenix, the moon was coming up and it was so beautiful over the desert! Here are some pictures I took from the truck and, while they aren't the best, they are still so beautiful!

Isn't it gorgeous? I just reminds me that the Lord has created everything. My heart worships Him for who He is and how He holds everything in His hands, including me.
A beautiful Scripture depicting this is Psalm 148:1-6

He gave an order that will never pass away.

*Check this Scripture out on BibleGateway to read the entire chapter and to find out more about it in the study notes they provide. Here's the direct link to this Scripture HERE

This happened on Saturday.

You could probably see in the picture on my birthday how little hair I had peeking out from under the hat. It was really quite silly looking and so I asked my son to just take the clippers to what was left of my hair. As much as I was dreading it, it really hasn't been horrible and I am looking on the bright side of it. I don't have to shampoo my hair or style it. I feel much cooler, and I get to wear great hats of all types as fashion statement! I actually crocheted myself another hat - a beanie to be exact - and here I am in my new little hat.

I really like this hat because it's super soft and lightweight. I'll probably make more in different colors.

I have been so blessed with continued cards coming in the mail and more sweet gifts from friends. Oh, how these bless me and touch my heart! They also give me strength because I know I'm being thought of and, believe me, as I'm going through this, I need to know I'm being thought of and prayed for.  I also had a dear friend bring us soup, rolls and flowers one evening. What a blessing! It's not always easy to make food as we are all exhausted. I have had so many blessings to count! I hope that you have had the same.

My prayer request is that this round of chemo will not be as hard on me and that my pain will be well controlled.  I'm also asking for prayer regarding my surgery.  They will be doing a CT scan after the third round of chemo to see if the little spots on my lung and liver are gone.  If they are, they will then do the hysterectomy! I feel like this will give me a big boost to get the offending organ that is producing this cancer out of my body. Would you please pray that this will be so? I may to still to more chemo, however, I feel that getting the thing that's making the cancer out of my body will really help me to eradicate the rest of the cancer!

Thank you all so much for the comments, emails, cards, gifts, encouragement and, most of all, your prayers! I have been so well love through all this and I am so grateful! It gives me such a boost and gives me the strength to fight this and stay strong!

I would love for you to share your own blessings on the Linky below! Share anything at all that you would like. I see so many wonderful things here that are fun and encouraging!

Many blessings to you, my friends - Julie

Counting Our Blessings Linkup

Life can be full of turmoil and heartache, but God continues to bless! That's what this linkup is all about - counting our blessings! This linkup is open to all bloggers to share something they want to share from their life, something they made, a recipe, or anything else that will bless others.

I had a huge blessing last week - I celebrated my 38th wedding anniversary! It doesn't seem possible that I've been married this long as the years just speed by. We had a lovely day and went out to eat at a restaurant we have never been to, despite it being here for years! The Texas Roadhouse was excellent and we enjoyed it very much. There was so much food that we ended up bringing about half our meals home. It was absolutely delicious and we had excellent service as well. It was a windy day but we got an anniversary picture together. 😊

After this we went to Hobby Lobby where I looked for a frame for a cross stitch I finished. Of course, I had to look at other things, too! It's one of my favorite places and I always enjoy seeing what's new. The sweetest thing happened while we were there. A little girl, who was about 10, was getting herself a counted cross stitch kit and I told her we were looking for needles for my cross stitch. She promptly stopped what she was doing to help me look! She then told me about how she was learning to crochet and cross stitch from her grandmother and about the cute games she was also getting It did my heart good to meet such a lovely little girl and to see her carrying on the art form of crochet and cross stitch!

Such a blessed Anniversary and I'm so thankful for being married to a man who stands with me through the joys and sorrows of life.

Counting Our Blessings Linkup

I am so ready to count my blessings - how about you? It's been such a tough few months but I've seen God work so many things out, bless me so mightily, and give me peace and comfort. He truly is a good God and I praise Him and want everyone to know how caring and loving He is.

I'm still recuperating from my surgery I had in May but feel my strength returning day by day. I rest when I need to and work on things when my energy lets me. I wanted to share some of the things I've been doing.

I haven't stamped or made cards for a very long time and needed to replenish my supply I keep on hand.  Here's two that I made.

Both of these are from stamps are from Stampin' Up and ones I've had forever. I have kept all my stamp sets because they really are timeless.

Have you heard of the Memorydex? It's like a Rolodex with large cards and you can decorate them how ever you like.  This is my first card for mine.

I hand lettered the Scripture and the stamp is again a Stampin' Up stamp that I've had for a long time. I stamped the background with a large rose pattern and added the ribbon.  Its simple but I really like it. I'm sure I'll get more elaborate with my cards as I go along, but this was a lot of fun and I really like it!

I also have been reading books from the library as I find time between review books.  This book was absolutely wonderful and I loved it! I loved the story line and the characters so much. The fact that it was set in Britain during WWII was perfect as that's my favorite thing. The growth of the characters was wonderful and it was just a delightful and suspenseful book! You'd love it!

My sweet son gave me these beautiful flowers! This bouquet is simply gorgeous and had so many blooms and different types of flowers. I love fresh flowers and this just blessed my heart so much!

I'd love for you to share on the linkup! You can add your link to the linky below!

Counting Our Blessings Linkup

I've been quiet here lately. I have been on a social media break, as much as possible these days. I have only been posting book reviews, for the most part, especially here. I needed a break to quiet my heart and my soul. There has been a lot going on here and I've also been experiencing pain issues more intensely. I did get a back injection on Tuesday so I'm hoping for some relief, however, right now I'm sore and moving slow. It's been a long, hard process of getting my injections for my knee and my back as the insurance company is getting more difficult in approving these shots that help me so much. It's frustrating and concerning when you feel like you won't get the help you need. I'm so thankful for my doctor who fights for me and gets me the help I need so I can live a more normal life.

I have been starting off my mornings with coffee (of course) and cross stitch. I take the time to start my morning off quietly, stitching and praying, before things get hectic. I got this idea from Vonna over at the Twisted Stitcher who started doing this during the Lent season. She worked on the most beautiful portrait of Jesus and had quiet time each morning. I realized that this was a great idea, especially since I'm not a morning person. It helped me to ease into my day. So here's what I've been working on

I love this Desert Santa with his cute, little burro! It reminds me so much of my years of living in Nevada and seeing these packs of burros roaming the desert. I'm nearly done with the stitching and then the fun part will be next - the beading.

After I'm done with this project, I'm going to pull out one of my large projects and finish it. Either the sampler I'm doing for my son (his birth announcement - he's only 28 years old - but it's never too late, right?! lol) or the Queen Elizabeth I've started. I'm ready to put away the small projects using the perforated paper and get back to stitching on my cloth.

We had a lovely Easter day here. I made ham, cheesy potatoes, loaded cauliflower casserole, and more! It was a very delicious meal shared with my family, which made it very special. We played cards after dinner, which was a lot of fun.

I made Easter baskets and was so happy with how they turned out! My hubby and I went to three different stores looking for just the right things to put in them. It was so fun!

It was a lovely day all the way around and I am so grateful for the saving grace of Jesus that we celebrate every year. He makes everything worthwhile and I honestly know that I could not get through the things I have to deal with without Him. He is risen!

Thank you so much for coming by to read my blog. This blog has brought me so much joy and friendships that I would never have had otherwise. I have several friends that I met through my blog and I am so thankful for each and everyone of them! It's amazing how God works all these things out and brings us together despite many miles apart.

Counting Our Blessings - Linkup

It's been a wonderful week of warmer weather. I'm welcoming Spring with open arms! I have actually spent some time on my deck, soaking up the sun, feeling the warm breeze on my face and praying to God as I enjoy His creation.

I've been working on a Lent study using this book

and creating an art journal with Scripture, stickers and die cuts. I love this little journal and how personal it feels. It focuses on Jesus and the promises of God.

I added a tip in to this page and here it is with it on top of the page

I created this little book using the journal and printable stickers from the Etsy shop, Praise and Pray. She's having a 30% sale right now as it's her 3rd anniversary on Etsy, so if you're interested in her things,, this is a good time to get some of her beautiful printables. The link to her shop is HERE.

I bound the journal myself using my binding machine but you could use a disc binding system (like for the Happy Planner) or even take it to an office supply store and let them bind it. The book and doing the journal with it, has been just wonderful.

I've also been stitching a lot and have an update on my Desert Santa. Here's the kit for him

and here's what I have stitched at this point

I usually don't do my beading until the end, but I just had to add my beads to the little donkey and see what he was going to look like finished. I'm absolutely loving this kit!

I also purchase something special and fun from 123 stitch. I have had my name in for an email notification to get the beautiful Mouline Special Etoile threads. I finally got my email and ordered them right away.

These threads are amazing with a touch of glittery type thread running through it. I have seen so many people adding them to their projects for a pop. I'm definitely going to try it on my Queen Elizabeth project I'm working on.

It's hard to see the shimmery threads running through, but they are there and gorgeous!
