Scripture Memorization Group

Hello friends!! It's time for us to commit to memorizing that first Scripture of the month again. How is your memorization going? If you're like me, you started out really great and then it kind of got harder. I'm recommitting, though, here and now! I am longing to know and walk with the Lord in a deeper, more committed way, and that can only be done through know His Word.

I LOVE HIS WORD!!

I know you do, too, so let's work to really hide it in our hearts and minds. 

Here's my Scripture that I'm memorizing. It's Psalm 95:1-7,

  Come, let us sing to the LORD ! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

  Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

  For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods.

  He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains.

  The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.

  Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD our maker,

  for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care.

Scripture Memorization Group

How is your memorization going? It is a big commitment but I'm already seeing the benefits of being able to know that I'm hiding the Word of God in my heart. When I can't sleep, I go over my Scripture and, before I know it, I'm relaxed and falling asleep. When my heart is worried, I recite my Scripture in my mind and suddenly, I'm calmer.

Memorizing Scripture brings our mind to God and His attributes and promises. I am so glad I'm doing this and even happier that you're doing it, too!

Today is the day we choose a new Scripture and here's mine...

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. - 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

 

Don't you love that God can pull down any stronghold that may come into our life?  This Scripture was in my Bible study this week and it spoke so much to my heart. I think sometimes I think that something that happens to me cannot be changed, but God says it can through Him!!

2016 Scripture Memorization Group!

As I shared before, I am starting a Scripture Memorization group here on More of Him and I'd love for you to join me!

The goal will be to memorize two Scriptures per month.  We will post our Scriptures in the comments on the Scripture Memorization posts. So, if you're going to join me - just post the Scripture you want to memorize in this posts comments. You can also post your Scripture on my Facebook page under the Scripture memorization post I will put there each time I post here. The link to my Facebook page is HERE

If you're unable to memorize two Scriptures a month - not to worry! Do one! The important thing is to memorize the Lord's Word and hide it in your heart.

You'll pick your own Scripture. If you're not sure what to choose, you can use the one I'm doing or one someone else is memorizing. Scripture should be personal so it can speak to you where you are right now in your life. Pick Scriptures that comfort you or are applicable to where you are right now.

In your comment, please put your first name and the state or country you're from. I would like to pray for you all - as I hope you'll do for each other - and it's so nice to have a name!

I want to show you what I'm writing my Scriptures in and also give you a couple of other ideas. Here's my pink glitter card book -

I found this at Office Depot during the back-to-school sale last fall. Here's the inside:

Here's a index card holder that is very durable and you can keep adding index cards.

You could even do something simple like this:

It's index cards with a ring. I just punched a hole in he corner and put them on this ring that you can pick up at any office supply store. I used this system for school as I could quickly flip through and learn the Scriptures or have them accessible for tests.

Whatever you chose to use, make it easy enough to take with you so you can go over the Scriptures. There is no right or wrong way to do this.

Another tool I use is ScriptureTyper. You can find all about it HERE  This is a fantastic tool for memorizing scripture. I use it on my phone and my tablet as well as my computer. It will help you learn Scriptures quite easily and fast.

Since I got a late start this month, we will start just memorizing one Scripture for January. Normally, we will share our Scriptures on the 1st and 15th of each month when the post goes up for that day.

Scripture Memorization!!

I have been waiting anxiously for Beth Moore to start her Scripture memorization group again. I didn't realize that she only does it every other year and this is the off year.

I still want to make this a year where I memorize Scripture so thought I would create a group here. I would do it very similar to how Beth Moore does it on her blog and include a place on my blog's Facebook page where we could share, too.

Here's my first Scripture card I created.

This Scripture, Isaiah 43:18-19, really spoke to me. I feel the Lord is really impressing on me to let the past lie in the past and to look forward to the new things He has for me. Like many people, I tend to dwell too much on the past - especially past hurts. You, too?

Do you see that stamp I used? That's Elsa from "Frozen" and her song "Let It Go" has become a favorite of mine. It perfectly fits with this Scripture! Letting go of the past and going forward using the talents that God gives us!

31 Days of Hope - October 22

The Lord values those who fear Him, those who put their hope in His faithful love.

Psalm 147:11

When we put our HOPE in the Lord, when we have awe of Him, He values us. He loves all His children, but those of us who give our lives to Him, hold a special value. When we trust Him, He is able to work in our lives. When we have HOPE in Him, we are opening our heart to allow Him to work in our life and do what is best for us. 

It may not always look the way we want it to look. God works in our lives in ways that will bless us. His concern is our relationship with Him. As we are going through a difficult situation or have a stronghold in our life we want to change, we need to try and remember to put Him first. I'm not going to lie and tell you this is easy. Personally, when I have had my hard days, I've wanted to crawl into a ball and sleep. Sleep has always been my first choice of escape. For you, it may be something different, but can I encourage us both to make our first choice Jesus? 

Do something easy; meditate on a favorite Scripture and pray over it. I know I've shared the one that gave me so much HOPE was Psalms 91:4.

I would read it over and over until I had it memorized. I would pray this Scripture and believe that God was covering me. It comforted me to imagine Him protecting me from all the things that frightened me. As you are able to do more, do more. Memorize and meditate on more Scriptures, follow a plan to read through your Bible and above all else, pray! 

God give us so much HOPE - He loves us with more love than anyone else ever has. Trust in Him as you go through your difficult time and sit back and watch Him work miracles in your life!

Sunday Thoughts

Do you memorize Scripture? I used to know a lot of Scripture because my Grandmother (bless her dear heart) would do a "Bible Study" with me every Saturday. She kept a book of Scriptures that I memorized. She would add a new Scripture about every two weeks as that was about how long it took me to memorize a new Scripture. She didn't give me overly long verses, but they were perfect for a 9 or 10 year old little girl. I still have that book with Scriptures written in her hand and it is one of my most treasured possessions! 

I say I used to know Scriptures because after my Grandmother passed away, I got lazy about memorizing Scriptures. I have tried over the years to memorize and there are some favorites that I do know, but not as many as I would like or feel that I need to hide in my heart. I love when I can call up a Scripture from memory when I need it or when I need to share it with someone. I really don't like it either when I can't recite it correctly or know where in the Bible it is. That's just rather humiliating and not very helpful either!

So, I'm really going to work on memorization. I started using this Bible Memory system and I really like it! The great thing is you can use it online or on your smart phone.

It takes you through several steps to help you memorize it and I've found it really great in helping me to do just that. I also write my Scriptures in a book just because it's special to do this. I've treasured my Scripture book from my Grandmother and am glad that I have something tangible to hold in my hands, but this system is really, really helpful to memorize the Scripture. 

Here are some Scriptures that I'm memorizing right now:

My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. 

Psalm 73:26

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not to be so.  Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 

James 3:10-11

He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.  His heart is established; He will not be afraid, Until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

Psalm 112:7-8 

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all. 

1 Chronicles 29:11
