Book Review - The Chocolate Diaries

The Chocolate Diaries by Karen Scalf Linamen

This book was SO good.  In fact, this is the best book I've read this year, so far (and that's saying a lot - I read every day). I just couldn't put it down and, in fact, read it in a day and a half!!

I think the first reason I loved the book is because the author is so real.  She doesn't try to make you think her life is perfect and I could totally relate to her and her life.  Personally, I like to read books that don't make me feel like I'm not a true Christian because my life isn't perfect.  I love this author (who's books I've read before) because she gives practical wisdom and throws in some humor along with it.  I personally love to laugh and reading this book was inspiring as well as funny.

The book is filled with inspiring stories not only from the author's life, but from other people as well.  People with adversities who were determined to go forward and do things in their life, with the help of God.  As a person dealing with chronic pain, it was very inspiring and comforting to know that I can go on and still be of use to the Lord and lead a life for him - even if it's in a new way.

One of my favorite chapters of the book is, "Who's your Daddy".  In this chapter she has listed who we are in relation to God with the referencing Scriptures. This list alone is worth having the book for.  How amazing to see the list of how God cares for us and how He sees us...and the Scriptures to back this list up! I love it.

If this book was amazing enough, she has included chocolate recipes at the end of each chapter including the much desired "Chocolate cake in a mug in 3 minutes" recipe! Oh, yum. I have to confess to finally going to the freezer and breaking open a bag of chocolate kisses because of all the chocolate talk in the book.  LOL

Read this book.  You'll be so happy you did. I am actually going to re-read it again because it was so good and I know that I couldn't have possibly gleaned everything out of it that I could by reading it again (and maybe again!).  I highly recommend this book and I know you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Blessings - Julie
