Book Review - This Is Your Captain Speaking

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The remarkable life, career, and faith journey of the star of The Love Boat and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

For 16 years, millions of Americans welcomed Gavin MacLeod into their living rooms every Saturday night. This veteran of stage and screen transformed himself from a seasoned character actor into the leading, lovable father-figure of The Love Boat at the height of TV’s boom years.
For more than 30 years, Gavin MacLeod has served as the global ambassador for Princess Cruises. Speaking to thousands of travelers each year, and signing hundreds of autographs at every port, he stands poised to celebrate his amazing journey with a look back at the golden era of American television.

The consummate storyteller, Gavin shares his fondest memories of meeting and working with countless stars, such as Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Gregory Peck, Bette Davis, Frank Sinatra, Ethel Merman, Ella Fitzgerald, Ronald Reagan, Milton Berle, and Fred Astaire.
From his humble theatrical beginnings in upstate New York, to Radio City Music Hall and on to Hollywood, Gavin MacLeod was on the fast track to success. However, a few hard life lessons—like dealing with a divorce—taught Gavin that the key to happiness was only through a deep faith in God, and he feels his work for Christ is more important than any award. Three years later his remarriage proved that a great struggle can culminate in a happy ending

MY REVIEW:

When I saw this book available for review, I jumped at the chance to read it! I can remember Gavin MacLeod from my early childhood and was always a fan. He's a superb actor and I love how he shares his faith in Christ so openly.

This book was such a great read! I could barely put it down. Mr. McLeod shares his childhood and then his passion for acting and how he started in the business. His enthusiasm and positive attitude really served him well as he worked on his acting off-Broadway, on Broadway, and then to Hollywood. He not only did TV, which many of us remember him from, but he was also in a lot of popular movies that I really enjoy. He shares some of his memories of famous stars that you'll recognize, too.

After his first marriage falls apart, he meets and marries Patti. Their love story and how the Lord really grabbed a hold of both of them is just a marvelous story. It shows what God can do when we allow him to work in our lives. Mr. MacLeod shares how his acting career was wonderful but his faith is what really brings him his happiness.

I also enjoyed all the wonderful pictures in the book. It's really packed full of pictures from his childhood, his TV and movie career and his family. How fun to see all these great pictures!

I highly recommend this book! It was a fun read! It made me laugh and cry and I became even more of a fan of Gavin MacLeod. His faith is so real and he's just a nice man! This would make a great Christmas present for someone or for yourself! This is a definite 5 out of 5 star book!
