Book Review and Giveaway!!! "Silenced" by Dani Pettrey

ABOUT THE BOOK:

A relaxing day of rock climbing takes a disturbing turn when Kayden McKenna’s route leads her to a face-to-face encounter with a dead climber. Is it a terrible accident or something sinister? When the case is handed to the overburdened sheriff, he turns to Jake Westin. With Jake’s past now revealed, he’s ready to use his talent for investigation again-–but he could never prepare for where the case will take him.

Kayden and Jake soon realize that the death was no accident. And worse, it seems the killer is on to them. When strange things begin happening in Yancey, Jake is terrified that once again his world may put someone he loves in danger.
But the truth is far worse than either of them imagine.

MY REVIEW:

I had such a hard time putting this book down! It had everything I love about a good book - great characters that stay with you and you care about, intrigue, mystery, and some heart stopping moments!

Kayden is a woman who keeps people at arms length - even those she loves - because she doesn't want them to have to take care of her in case she gets Rheumatoid Arthritis like her Mom and has to be taken care of. She eats super healthy and is an avid climber.

Jake is a former detective who had been running from his past because he felt so responsible for his wife and unborn child's murder at the hands of a deranged murderer. He, too, has a problem with getting too close to anyone, although, with Kayden, he'd like to change all that.

The book starts out with the murder of a man that Kayden finds on one of her climbs. As she and Jake are investigating this, there are many twists and turns and strange things that happen. The climbing community is a tight knit group and they don't appreciate Kayden's investigation. They look at it as a betrayal. Kayden starts getting threats and it finally ends up with her being hit with a land slide on one of her climbs.

You'll be shocked at who the culprit is and the book will definitely keep you guessing until the final pages! I just love a book like this - trying to figure out who "done it". I really loved the rich quality of the dialogue and how I felt like I really knew each and every character in this book.

The greatest thing about the book is the faith that these good characters exhibit. They truly believe and live their faith. It isn't "forced" in the book - just a natural part of who these people are. I also was so inspired by this particular quote in the book by Jake. It really spoke to me in my current circumstances of recovering from my surgeries and all that has happened because of the surgeon's errors:

"God doesn't promise the way will be easy, far from it, but He promises to carry us through, to give us the courage and grace we need when we need it. He most often doesn't change the circumstances, He changes us."

Don't you love that? This book is just so well written and so enjoyable! I highly, highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars! You'll love it!
