Book Review - A Season of Change

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Amish widower Jacob Miller believes it was a mistake to visit the Amish village of Pinecraft for winter vacation, especially after his daughter is struck by a car. Stranded in Sarasota until his daughter recovers, Jacob grows increasingly wary of events that unfold in his unfamiliar surroundings---including the strange curiosity of Englischer Natalie Bennett.
Natalie never thought her circus career as an aerial silks artist would end with a blown-out knee at the age of 25. She also never knew her late mother had a secret---that she was once Amish.
When Natalie meets the Millers at the Sarasota hospital, she is attracted to their warm hospitality and simple ways---and soon wonders if they can help her find her mother's family. As Jacob and Natalie fall in love, their worlds collide. Will their differences tear them apart? Or will their love be strong enough to blend their clashing cultures?

MY REVIEW:

I really enjoy Amish novels and this one was even better just because of the unusual twist to it. I didn't know there was a place in Florida where the Amish go to vacation (sort of like their own Las Vegas in a way) and I really enjoyed all the detail that the author went into to really give us a picture of the community of Pinecraft. I really felt like I was there!

Jacob is a widower with two children and he's just not in a good place and really questions whether he wants to go to Pinecraft, but he decides it's a good change. While there, his daughter is hit by a car and ends up in a hospital where they meet Natalie, who is at first known to them as Bubbles the clown.

Natalie is not Amish but finds out that her mother was and starts to investigate this whole lifestyle. She and Jacob are intrigued with each other but she doesn't think she could live the Amish life as she enjoys the conveniences of life and doesn't think they are sinful or keep her from loving the Lord.

I really loved how the Amish community opened their hearts to Natalie even though she wasn't Amish and I also loved how there were no pat answers about some very difficult questions. I think it was wonderful how it was left for answers to be found in God's Word for one's self.

This book really is one of my very favorite Amish books I've read in a long time. It was so unusual and the characters are so multi-dimensional, I really felt myself wanting to get to know them more! Thankfully, this is the first book in the series so I'll be able to revisit these great characters again!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
