Book Review - My Mother's Quilts

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Inspired by thirty family heirloom quilts, each devotion depicts the enduring legacy of faith, family and tradition. Rich, personal, sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, each reading provides a lesson and encouragement from the faithful women who crafted the quilts. Full-color photographs of each quilt show the style and artistry of each beautiful work. The quilts, sewn by several generations over more than one-hundred years, are as unique and lovely as the hands that created them. The oldest was buried during the Civil War to keep it safe and the author’s mother created the newest in the last years of her life.

MY REVIEW:

This has to be one of the most beautiful books I've seen in a long time! It's full of color photos on beautiful, glossy, high quality paper. It really is like a coffee table book and I absolutely adored it in every way!

Ramona shares the stories of her family's quilts. Especially those of her mother and grandmother. Each one has a Scripture and a thoughtful point to ponder after each story. You could use this book as a devotional during your quiet time as it would be excellent for that. I devoured this book in one setting and enjoyed every minute of it.

The book has beautiful photos of the quilts that the author shares stories about and I loved seeing each and every one. They are just beautiful and the love and care that went into each one reminds us of the love and care that the Lord has for us.

The one story the author shared that really touched me was when her grandmother came to live with her family. She had to move to a new state, leaving behind her church and friends. To cope, she started a quilt that kept her busy and focused on a project and kept her mind off her losses. I think, for me, it was an excellent example of doing what we love to cope with the losses in our life. Sometimes our society makes us feel like doing these arts and crafts are not really productive or necessary but this story illustrates how really necessary they are. It was a valuable lesson for me.

I love this book! It's so beautiful in every way! The stories, the Scriptures and the photos are just amazing and it's a book I intend to visits time and again. It's actually going on my coffee table for not only my enjoyment but for others to enjoy, too. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
