Book Review - Seeing Jesus

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When we want to see who Jesus was and why he came, we tend to turn to the New Testament accounts of his birth in Bethlehem, his sermon on the hillside and his death on a cross. Yet we discover on the road to Emmaus that Jesus’ way of explaining who he was and why he came was to work his way through the Old Testament—through Genesis and Exodus, Psalms and Proverbs, Isaiah and Jeremiah.

In Seeing Jesus, Nancy Guthrie takes us through 60 selected Old Testament readings to see how they reveal Jesus in their promises and prophesies, sacrifices and shadows. Your eyes will be opened to the epic scope of the Bible’s story like never before, as you see what God’s plan for His people has been all along.

(Adapted from The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament; now in a deluxe LeatherLike binding.)

MY REVIEW:

This year I have longed to know more of Jesus. To truly understand Him in a deeper, more meaningful way and this book has definitely helped me to do that. I knew that the Old Testament was filled with Scripture after Scripture that points to Jesus but reading this book has opened my eyes to so much beautiful truths of Jesus in the Old Testament.

There are 60 little readings on Scripture and then a short study about that Scripture. First we read an Old Testament verse and then a New Testament Scripture that the first Scripture points to. I found this extremely helpful in understanding how the Old Testament tied into the life of Jesus and who He was in the New Testament. It also shows proof that the Bible is prophetic and all things that were testified to in the OT come to pass in the NT.

I really loved the explanation of these Scriptures because Nancy explains things so well that I was never confused or left with questions. I also loved how she has a short prayer to Jesus thanking Him for his grace, love, promise and attributes. It, again, helped you to see what the Scriptures point to.

The greatest thing I loved is that I fell even deeper in love with my Savior, Jesus. When you truly know who He is, your heart can barely contain the love and awe you have for Him. I feel like reading this book has truly helped me to understand Him in a beautifully written way. Not only is the writing beautiful but the little book is very beautiful. It has a leather cover with an engraving and the inside pages are good quality paper with easy to read brown lettering. The font is the perfect size, too, and great for your early morning quiet time when your eyes are still trying to focus! lol

I highly recommend this book. If you want to truly know Jesus and grow closer to Him, this is definitely the book for you! I give it 5 our of 5 stars.
