Sunday Thoughts

I can remember a time when my life was rather calm and there was a routine about it. If I was concerned about something, I knew I could pray about it and the concern would turn into a peace because I knew that God was in control. When life is going along fairly smoothly, it's easy to believe and trust in God's promises. Let things get out of control for a period of time and that peace isn't so easy to find.

Suddenly, everything you once believed is harder to grasp - harder to believe. It feels as though everything is out of your control, especially if things keep happening one right after another. We can feel beaten down. Empty.

This is when all we can do is cling to what we know. We may not feel it in our heart but we know it in our minds. We have to stand on the promises of God. We have to stand on His grace because it's only through His grace that we have sufficiency for anything. Sufficiency to put one foot in front of the other. Sufficiency just to take the next breath.

I've been feeling these things and trying to remind myself of all that God has shown me through His Word through the years. I pray for His guidance in all of the stressful and unsure situations that I face. I know that He is faithful because I have seen Him work over and over in my life. I have seen Him work miracles and keep me going through some of the hardest things anyone could go through. These are the things that I try to remember and bring to my mind.

I am so glad that I have read my Bible diligently, memorized Scripture, and have my faith to stand on. I can recall promises and the stories of others who have gone through difficult situations yet God was there. He had a plan for these men and women of the Bible and He has a plan for us.

If you're going through the hard things of life, I pray that you will remember God has not left you. You may feel that you are alone (I feel this quite frequently) but you are not alone. As we get to the other side of these hard things, many times we see where God was working and we understand. Sometimes, we will have to be on the other side of heaven to understand, but understand we will.

Pray as often as you can and open your Bible and meditate on His Word. But be gentle with yourself. Don't create more stress in your heart by berating yourself for not doing these things as often as you think you should. God understands our human frailties. He understands that sometimes our hearts and minds need a rest. Our faith in Jesus is what really matters. Stand on that faith and know that this, too, shall pass.

Blessings - Julie
