Book Review - Shine, Stepping Into the Role You Were Made For

Actors aren't the only ones who play characters. Many of us do, much of the time. We walk into a room, figure out who we're supposed to be in this context, slip into character, and say the lines we know we should say. We become someone else. Maybe we tell ourselves it's some version of us, but deep down we know this inauthentic character is not what God wants for our lives--and it's not what we want either.

With fascinating personal stories and sharp insight into human nature, former actor Allison Allen calls you to drop the brave act and step into the role of a lifetime--being your real self in Christ, no matter what the critics might say. She gives you permission to talk about, rather than around, the things you feel, freeing you to step out of the shadows and into the light of God's true calling.

Allison Allen is a graduate of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University and appeared in 650 performances of the Broadway production of Grease. A former Women of Faith dramatist and current Bible teacher, she speaks to women at conferences and retreats around the country, exploring themes of purpose, value, and identity in original and unexpected ways. She lives with her family in Tennessee.

All I can say is "wow"! This book spoke volumes to my heart and mind and gave me such hope!

Allison is a professional actress and so the book has a lot of references to that in it. I found it very interesting how she applied these different aspects to our lives. I love how she is so honest and open about the fears and pain she has experienced and how the Lord has helped her to get past these things.

The greatest thing I took away from this book was to be secure and patient in waiting on the Lord to show me what He wants me to do. God has a plan for us all and a role for us in this world and we just need to be faithful to wait on Him.

This book is such an encouragement to know that we have a purpose. We can and should shine for the Lord! I loved this book and will be re-reading it again. I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
