Book Review - My Heart, Ever His: Prayers for Women

Surrender Your Heart to the One Who Made It

Written prayers can serve as welcome guides to tune our hearts to the heart of God. In My Heart, Ever His Barbara Rainey shares 40 prayers to invite other women to bravely and authentically talk to God in the same ways the psalmists did thousands of years ago.

Like King David's conversations with God, Barbara's prayers are honest, even raw. Her transparency around experiences common to women encourages us to continually surrender to Christ and to see God as He is, not as we assume Him to be.

My Heart, Ever His guides readers to become transparent with our God. He already knows us intimately yet is ever eager to welcome us in His boundless love.

Barbara Rainey ( is a wife, mother of six adult children (plus three sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law), and "Mimi" to twenty-one grandchildren. After graduating from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, Barbara joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1971. Her husband, Dennis, whom she married in 1972, is the president of FamilyLife, a ministry of Campus Crusade that is headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Barbara has published articles on family-related topics and is the author and coauthor of many books. She speaks at FamilyLife's Weekend to Remember marriage conferences and is a frequent guest on FamilyLife Today, a nationally syndicated daily radio program. Having faithfully served alongside Dennis for more than forty years both in ministry and at home, Barbara has recently launched a new endeavor called Ever Thine Home. This line of decorative home products for women makes it easy to express faith at home in a way that is both biblical and beautiful (

This is a beautiful book - both inside and out. It's filled with heart-felt prayers that really touched my heart.

I absolutely loved the introduction that Barbara wrote. It explains why she wrote these prayers and how her study of Scripture guided her in these prayers. She explains that these are not happy, life is great, prayers but prayers from times when life is hard. There is also prayers of praise and all of these were so relatable to me as I go through my own life hardships.

The prayers are so beautiful and I found myself pondering over each one. They are meant to be read slowly. Barbara Rainey's writing is so poetic and beautiful and I found myself lingering over these prayers. I also used them as a jumping off point to pray my own prayers. Using this book during my time with God quieted my heart and allowed me to really focus on my Bible study and prayers.

This is a book I know I will return to again and again. I really have enjoyed my time reading it and I know you'll like it as much as I do.  I give it 5 stars.
