Book Review - Own Your Life

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Do you ever long for days full of joy and energy—days that bring out the best version of you rather than leave you exhausted? So now is the time to make each moment of your ordinary, everyday, beautiful existence count. It’s time to own your life.

Sally Clarkson’s Own Your Life is a breath of fresh air into the life and soul of a busy woman. Like a faithful friend, Sally journeys with you to explore what it means to live meaningfully, follow God truly, and bring much-needed order to your chaos. Each page offers deeply personal, authentic, and practical guidance to help you build an intentional life. Discover what it means to own your life, and dare to trust God’s hands as He richly shapes your character, family, work, and soul.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sally Clarkson is the mother of four wholehearted children, a popular conference speaker, and the author of numerous books and articles on Christian motherhood and parenting, including The Mission of Motherhood, The Ministry of Motherhood, Seasons of a Mother's Heart, The Mom Walk, Dancing with My Father, and Educating the WholeHearted Child (contributor). After graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in Speech/English, Sally joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1975, and ministered to women in Communist Poland 1977-1980. Since her marriage to Clay in 1981, she has continued to minister to women and mothers worldwide. In 1994, she and Clay started Whole Heart Ministries to encourage and equip Christian parents to raise wholehearted Christian children. They write and publish books through Whole Heart Press, offer hotel and church-based parenting and motherhood events, and minister online through blogs, email newsletters, and their ministry website (wholeheart.org). Since 1998, Sally has ministered to thousands of mothers through her WholeHearted Mother Conferences. She has spoken across the U.S., and on four continents. The Clarksons live in Monument, Colorado and have home educated all of their children from the beginning. Sally loves family, reading, music, bread-baking, traveling, and long walks.

Discipleship is the heartbeat of Sally's life, whether it is in teaching and motivating other women, or in training and instructing her children. Through her books and speaking ministries, God has used Sally to bring encouragement and inspiration to mothers who desire to follow God's biblical design for their lives. All of her messages are filled with stimulating biblical instruction, touching personal anecdotes and illustrations, and wise spiritual insights born out of her own experience in life and ministry.

MY REVIEW:

I have read every one of Sally Clarkson's books and have always been so blessed and enlightened. This book does the same and I thoroughly enjoyed it and gained so much from this book! I wish I had  been able to read this book when I was younger as it has made that much of an impact in my life!

Sally shares from the perspective of a mother with grown children (which I can totally relate to), however, what she shares will be great no matter what age you are or if you have small children, no children, or grown children. This book is all about YOU and what God calls you to do and that you can be secure with that knowledge and how your life is.

I love how she shares that each of us can be happy and productive in what ever circumstances we find ourselves. Sally shares a story of when she was living with her mother-in-law, in a too small house, with horrible heat and very small children while she and her husband were starting their business. I love how she started out with an attitude like I would have had - poor little me - but came to realize that her attitude was affecting her life in a negative way so she decided to see the joy in each day. I loved this story because it shows how we, ourselves, can change our circumstances just by how we look at it. Plus, God had her there for a reason and she could grow or be stagnant.

I have gained so much from this book! I'm realizing that though my circumstances may not be ideal, God can still use me and I can own my life just as it is here and now. I loved the questions that Sally puts at the end of each chapter because they made me really focus on what is important to me and how I want to use my life. It's okay to be right where I am, how God made me, and there is security in that knowledge!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend it!
