Book Review - It's Not About You, Mrs. Turkey

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Thanksgiving is a celebration of bountiful harvest, but more than just great food, the true meaning of Thanksgiving goes deep into the roots of family, friends, trust, hope in times of hardship, and more.

This delightfully illustrated children's story is sure to become a tradition for you and your family. It will be a helpful tool as parents, grandparents and teachers instruct their children on the important historical background behind this holiday and to reflect on the importance of family, friends and a thankful heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Author Soraya Diase Coffelt is a native of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. She is a mother of two sons, lawyer and former judge. She loves children.

Active in her church, she served as a parent volunteer and then a lay minister in the Children's Ministry for over 15 years. She has also participated in mission trips providing food, medicine, clothing and other necessary items to people in need in Honduras and the Amazon River Region of Peru. She frequently helps feed homeless and hungry people in the Virgin Islands and whenever she travels. Her late husband, Gordon, supported her wholeheartedly.

MY REVIEW:

This book is such an adorable children's book all about Thanksgiving. It's written as a letter from a small child to Mrs. Turkey and he tells her all about what Thanksgiving is really all about.

The story of the pilgrims is shared and, as many times as I've heard the story, I actually learned some new things! Mrs. Turkey is told how Thanksgiving is not about her, although she's very delicious, but about being thankful for the blessings we have.

As with the author's other books, the focus is on faith in Jesus. She shares how the pilgrims came to America so they could worship God freely and then at the end, she shares the gospel message from a child-like level. I really like this because the book just naturally leads up to this message.

I also love the illustrations in this book. Illustrations are very important in children's books because it will hold the child's attention and give them something to look at as you read to them. It just makes the book more enjoyable!

This would be a wonderful book to have for your Thanksgiving! It would make a great addition to your day to sit and read this with your little ones (or even your older ones!). I really like this book and highly recommend it! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
