In Memory

On October 25th, 2010, at about 1:30 pm, my sweet, little, Tammy Lou, passed away.  She had heart trouble that we found out about 2 years ago.  At that time, they didn't think she would even survive for 6 weeks, but they gave her three different pills and she did quite well!  I was so happy! She did very well until over the weekend.  She woke up on Sunday morning and seemed to be more lethargic, but she was eating and drinking fine.  It had been colder over the weekend and so I thought it might be affecting her.  I wrapped her in a blanket and she was doing much better.  She had a good day, but I decided that I would call the Vet on Monday to take her and have her checked out.

I called her on Monday and made an appointment for the afternoon.  In the meantime, Tammy Lou was sitting in her bed and seemed to be doing okay.  Of course, I was in my recliner with the heating pad, and was nodding off when I heard this strange noise next to my chair.  I said to my son, "Where is Tammy Lou?"  I somehow knew the noise was coming from her. He looked and she was under the footrest of my chair.  He said, "Tammy Lou?"  in a very strange tone of voice and I knew something was wrong.  I sat up and saw that she was on her side at my feet and was breathing very shallow.  Immediately, my son and I tried to help her and tried for several minutes, but I knew that she was going away.  She passed away in my arms.

I had Tammy Lou since she was 6 weeks old and she lived to be over 12 years old.  She was a vital part of my life and I will miss her immensely. I like to think she is frolicking around in heaven, playing with a favorite toy. I know, many don't believe that animals go to heaven, but I like to think that the Lord understands how important our pets are and He has them waiting for us when we get to heaven. (Oh, please, let's not get into a theological discussion about this. My belief will neither get me into heaven or out of it and we don't really know, do we? My salvation is in Jesus and Jesus alone).  My precious girl will always be in my heart and I'm thankful for the 12 happy years I shared with that sweet, little poodle.  Rest in peace, Tammy Lou.

God bless you - Julie

  1. October 22,2009 was the day we said goodbye to our faithful companion, Buddy. He was 16 years old. he had a bad heart as well and he was really struggling that Sunday. We took him to the vet on Monday and he told us Buddy was hanging on by a string and really suffering. So we made that unselfish but oh, so very painful choice, and put him to sleep. I made sure I was the last thing Buddy every saw before he went on. Geez, just writing this makes me cry and it's been over a year! I miss my boy more than words can say!

Anyway, not wanting to get into a theological discussion either, I just want to say one thing...The lion did lay down with the lamb....right? Just sayin...

    Hugs,

    Sue

  2. Thinking of you this morning and saying prayers to ease your pain. Like you said our dogs mean so much to us and I also like to believe Misty (a small apricot poodle) is playing in heaven. Like you we loved our pup so much. After work we couldn't walk into the house without the other. It was just to sad not to be greeted by our best friend. Thinking of you during this difficult time.

  3. Sue, I don't think we ever really get over those losses - whether they are human or furry loved ones. I find myself crying over Tammy Lou at odd times; the grief just hits me so I totally relate to your tears at writing about Buddy.

I like to think that Buddy and Tammy Lou are playing together right now. :)

    Love, Julie

  4. Rita, our pets add so much to our lives. I especially miss her right now while I'm in pain and rather isolated in my home. I do have other pets in the house that I love, so that eases the pain somewhat, however, there was none like my beloved Tammy Lou.

There's something about a poodle, as I'm sure you know since you had Misty. They are really intuitive and so loving. I'm so sorry for your loss, too.

    Love, Julie
