Sunday Thoughts
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Focusing on the eternal. This is what those of us who are going through a difficult time have to do to keep going - sometimes to keep our sanity. If we allow ourselves to dwell on the the wasting away, we are really giving a lot of power to the evil one who wants to keep us down. Do you see where it says, "For this light momentary affliction..."? Think about that. When we are going through an affliction of any kind, we feel like it has been going on forever and will continue to go on forever but the Lord tells us it's a light, momentary affliction. I think what he's telling us is that if we will focus on the eternal, we will realize that it is a momentary affliction in the grand scheme of things.
The eternal things are forever. Jesus promised that he was going to prepare a place for us and that we would be with him. "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. - John 14:1-3
It is a great comfort to me knowing that my pain on this earth will end. Even though my outer self is wasting away, I know that I have the promise of Jesus taking me to himself - that where He is, I will be also. Let me also share that during these times of affliction and pain, I am not alone. The Lord is with me, comforting me and giving me peace. I am able to get through the afflictions because the Lord is with me as I go through this. That's part of focusing on the eternal, too. Believing and having faith in the Lord, that He is with me now, and that I will be with him in heaven someday.
I pray that you will focus on the eternal, dear friend. I pray that you know the Lord, Jesus Christ. If you do, make sure that you are making him the center and focus of your life. If you don't know Jesus, please go HERE and learn how you, too, can have the peace of God in knowing He is with you now and that you will be with Him some day.
God bless you - Julie
