Book Review - Trusting God
ABOUT THE BOOK:
In a culture where we tend to take control of our own lives, truting God has become a religious platitude rather than a life-changing attitude. We say it, but do we really mean it? And what does trusting God actually look like?
Sharon, Gwen, and Mary - the Girlfriends in God team - come from different backgrounds but have all individually wrestled with this weighty issue. And in Trusting God, they bring their combined experiences and biblical knowledge into one place. Whatever your struggling with, they can relate and have probably been there themselves!
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
The Girlfriends in God are Sharon, Gwen and Mary. Together they share Girlfriends in God online devotions that are read by more than five hundred thousand readers daily.
MY REVIEW:
This book is a devotion book and focuses on 12 weekly studies. I loved the stories from each of the authors because they are real and they share parts of their lives. If you've read my book review, you know that I find books that share real life stories to be more captivating and interesting. These ladies share their hearts and many times I was touched to tears.
One of the weeks had a study/devotional called "Yes and Amen!". I especially loved when Gwen Smith shared this: "You see, friend, the yes-and-amen promise here is that we will bear fruit, not that we will necessarily see the fruit in our own timing or even in our own lifetimes." Wow! For me this was such a revelation because I always want to see the fruit of my labors NOW. However, I realize that it doesn't matter if I see my fruit, only that God and other's do. My concern is to live my life so that I DO produce fruit for the Lord.
The whole book is like this. Full of "ah-ha" moments! Each day begins with a Scripture from the Bible and the devotional is focused on that Scripture. At the end of each week, there is a section called "Now It's Your Turn". In this section you write down what you learned in that weeks devotionals. I really liked how they did this part because it forced me to really think and apply what I learned about the myself throughout the week and also how I grew to know the Lord even deeper.
I highly recommend this book! It's like sitting down with a bunch of girlfriends and doing a study together and chatting. It will bring you closer in your relationship with the Lord, too, and isn't that what it's all about?
