Book Review - Shattered

ABOUT THE BOOK:

With All the Evidence Against Him, Only a Sister's Trust Can Save Him Now
When her prodigal brother Reef's return to Yancey, Alaska, is shattered by his arrest for murder, Piper McKenna is determined to protect him.
Deputy Landon Grainger loves the McKennas like family, but he's also sworn to find the truth. And he knows those closest to you have the power to deceive you the most. With his sheriff pushing for a quick conviction, some unexpected leads complicate the investigation, and pursuing the truth puts Landon's career in jeopardy.
When Piper launches her own investigation, Landon realizes he must protect her from herself-and whatever complications await as the two follow clues deep into Canada's rugged backcountry. Not only does their long friendship seem to be turning into something more, but this dangerous case is becoming deadlier with each step.

MY REVIEW:

This has to be one of the best suspense/mystery books I've read! It kept me reading into the wee hours of the night because I just didn't want to put it down!

"Shattered" is book two in the "Alaskan Courage" series yet you won't be lost if you start on this book before reading the first one.

I think the thing I loved most about Piper McKenna, the main character, is that she is so totally loyal and devoted to her brother who has been accused of murder. I think we all would love to have family that loves us and believes in us this much. It made me like her so much for these qualities and I found myself cheering her on as she doggedly worked so hard to prove her brother's innocense. Add the element of the sheriff who is bound and determined to convict Piper's brother, Reef, and it leads to some very intense moments. It also makes it easy to not like the Sheriff for many reasons.

One of the things I really liked about the book, too, was the interesting and, sometimes funny, dialogue between Piper and Deputy Landon Grainger. It helped to have these lighter moments at times in a book filled with suspenseful tension.

I loved how we are drawn into the McKenna family and we learn to care about them all. I also liked seeing the twists and turns of Landon's affection for Piper grow and his conflict because he is a Deputy working under the Sheriff who is determined to see Reef go to prison. Sometimes I wanted the romance to move along a little quicker, but it just added to the desire on my part to not put the book down.

I really enjoyed this excellent book. There is really nothing as good as a good mystery and this book fit that bill perfectly, in my opinion. An excellent read!
