Book Review - Duchess by Susan May Warren

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

When her country needs her, will she have the courage to surrender her glittering world and her one true love?
The golden age of Hollywood is in the business of creating stars. Rosie Worth, now starlet Roxy Price, has found everything she's wanted in the glamour of the silver screen. With adoring fans and a studio-mogul husband, she's finally silenced the voices-and grief-of the past. Her future shines bright...until the fated Black Friday when it all comes crashing down. When Roxy loses everything, she finds herself disgraced and penniless. Her only hope is to join forces with Belgian duke Rolfe Van Horne, a longtime film investor. But Rolfe is not who he seems, and he has other plans for Roxy and her movies-plans to support a growing unrest in Europe, plans that could break her heart and endanger her life. MY REVIEW:

I loved everything about this book - from the setting of the 1920-30's of Hollywood to the wonderful, descriptive writing that only Susan May Warren can do! It was one of those books that I hated to have end! I found myself savoring the last few pages of the book to make it last longer as I didn't want it to end. This is the third book in the Daughters of Fortune series, but don't worry if you haven't read the first two, this book definitely stands alone. You'll want to read the first two, though, if you haven't!

Roxy is a movie star looking for the love she craves but she seems to constantly make wrong choices and makes the same mistakes over and over. Her difficult childhood seems to be following her into her adult life and she has high walls around her heart, even though she desires to be loved. I think that's why I love Roxy - she's a real person with real problems and we can all relate.

I really loved how the author showed Roxy as a person believing she is in total control of her destiny, but when she hits bottom, she realizes that she needs a redeemer that she can surrender to. It really is a beautiful story of someone prideful and arrogant understanding that they truly need the Lord.  She is forced to live the consequences of her choices, however, we see God work all these things together for good.

By the end of this book, I was wiping away my tears. I loved this book so much and it truly is one of my all time favorites! I highly recommend this book!
