Sunday Thoughts

My husband and I were doing our Bible study yesterday and one of the questions was in regards to Matthew 4:18-22.

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."  Immediately, they left their nets and followed him.  Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

We were reading it out loud and I said to my husband, "Wow, I never noticed that before." Peter, Andrew, James and John followed Jesus immediately

This really convicted me. When God has called me to do something, do I immediately follow Him? Or do I weigh it out and look at the pros and cons? Unfortunately, I have to honestly say that sometimes I do weigh things out instead of just dropping everything and saying "yes" to God immediately.

I think it's important to pray about things to make sure that we are really hearing from the Lord. It's important to know Him so we know His voice. However, I know there have been some things that the Lord has called me to do and I've hesitated. Out of fear? Lack of confidence? Probably.

So, I'm going to pray that the Lord would give me confidence and strength to do what He's called me to do. I am praying that He would help me to immediately follow His calling in all areas of my life. I think this word "immediately" written twice in four Scriptures is a mighty important word. I believe that the Lord wanted me to see that I haven't always done things immediately. With His help, though, I will!

Have a blessed Sunday - Julie

  1. Yes, it is striking isn't it? Our pastor has spoken on this before. Yes, it does make you look at yourself and wonder.
