Book Review - Despite Doubt - Embracing a Confident Faith

ABOUT THE BOOK:

If you or someone you know is struggling with doubt, Michael E. Wittmer offers you a freeing perspective of what it means to walk by faith in Despite Doubt. “Doubt is not the fuel of faith,” he writes. “Scripture repeatedly presents faith as our reliance upon what we know. Faith begins when we know the facts about God and His great salvation.” This insightful book includes questions for reflection and discussion and is a great resource for individual or small group study.

MY REVIEW:

This book was not an easy read for me - it is one of those books that was slow going for me because it was very philosophical, in my opinion. The author is a professor of Theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, so this is understandable.

I found this book very helpful as far as understanding that doubt is a normal thing, even for those of us who have been Christians for a long time. Mr. Wittmer gives us the tools to overcome these doubts and to help us understand why we have them.

Each chapter is quite short and concise and goes over a specific area of doubt so from that point of view, it's easily read.

I enjoyed the chapters about discerning the will of God. I think every believer struggles with this issue at times and Mr. Wittmer helped to clarify this and give points on how to know if you're hearing from the Lord or not. I found this very helpful.

This is a book that carries a lot of information and it's a must-have for any Christian library! It would be a great book to discuss in a small group and for anyone in church leadership to have as a reference book. I recommend this book for anyone that would like to strengthen their faith and get past their doubts.
