Book Review - Longing For Paris

Most days, you wouldn’t trade what you have for the world. You love your husband and your kids, and you are grateful to God for your life. But there are days when you feel as though life is rolling over you in waves and you are just going through the motions. You find yourself aching for something more, something that is calling to depths of who you are, maybe for something you can’t even name.

For Sarah Mae, it was Paris, a place that is known for breathtaking beauty, inspiring art, and exquisite food. But as she searched her heart, she found there was more to her longings than she anticipated.

Join Sarah Mae in Longing for Paris, a soul-searching, light-filled journey for the woman who knows she can’t uproot her life to discover herself and her longings, but who desperately wants to uncover them so she can get unstuck and choose a life that is filled with beauty, adventure, and deep joy . . . right where she is.

Sarah Mae, listed as one of Christian Broadcasting Network's "Six Women Leaders to Follow on Twitter," is an influential Christian blogger, conference cohost, and coauthor with Sally Clarkson of the bestselling book, Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe.

Because of her drive to inspire women to hold fast to Jesus and to live by faith, Sarah Mae has cultivated blogs and websites that have encouraged thousands of women all over the world. She is the author of several bestselling e-books, a contributing writer to DaySpring's (in)courage, and the founder and cohost of Allume, a national Christian women's blogging conference that has sold out each year. Those are her street creds.
In her everyday life, she is a wife who passionately supports her husband, even on the days when he drives her crazy (and, don't you know, she drives him crazy sometimes, too), a mom to three of her favorite people whom she homeschools, and a piecrust botcher. Oh yes, she bakes, but it's never pretty.

She makes her home in the beautiful Amish countryside of Pennsylvania where she often ponders what life would be like if she actually finished all the laundry.

I was so excited to read this book because it seemed like it was going to speak to my heart about the things I longed for in the here and now - and I wasn't disappointed! It almost seemed as though the author was speaking to me personally.

If you have dreams that you feel you're having to put on hold or you're longing to go somewhere exotic, like Paris, this book is for you. God truly does care about our dreams because He truly cares about us. He puts those dreams and talents in us and He understands that we would want to pursue them.

Another thing I loved about this book is how pretty it is, inside and out. It has lovely designs on each corner of each page, and while unnecessary, it just blesses my heart and makes me feel like the author and publisher went the extra mile to make the book enjoyable. I also love that Sarah Mae brings Bible stories and Scriptures to help us relate. At the end of each chapter, there is also a section called, "Unearthing Your Longings" where she asks a series of questions to help you dig deeper into your thoughts and feelings about thing. She also has a box called, "An Invitation to Paris" where she has suggestions for making your life special right now, where you're at.

Sarah Mae helps us to realize that our lives are truly special. She writes from the heart and has such a beautiful insight to our heart. She shares how we can make our lives exciting and find adventure where we live by looking at our surroundings with new eyes.

I enjoyed this book so much! It's exactly what I have needed to read and it has given me a lightness and a hope that God truly does care about me and my dreams. I also know that God has me right where I'm supposed to be and that life is an adventure - even in my little town. I know you'll enjoy it, too, and have the link to buy it below. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
