Book Review - Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than. When we allow him to speak lies through our rejection, he pickpockets our purpose. Cripples our courage. Dismantles our dreams. And blinds us to the beauty of Christ’s powerful love.

In Uninvited, Lysa shares her own deeply personal experiences with rejection—from the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father to the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over.

With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa helps readers:

• Release the desire to fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process their hurt.

• Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady their soul and restore their confidence.

• Overcome the two core fears that feed our insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging. • Stop feeling left out and start believing that "set apart" does not mean "set aside."

• End the cycle of perceived rejection by refusing to turn a small incident into a full blown issue.

MY REVIEW:

All I can say is "Wow!" I felt like Lysa had been reading my journals or was inside my head. This book spoke to my heart from the beginning to the end!

If you feel like you never quite measure up or you're unlovable, this is definitely the book for you! I was so encouraged by every word and how Lysa shared Scripture after Scripture of God unending love for us. She gives us the tools to help us overcome these feelings of inadequacy that bind us and keep us from doing things that we want to do - those feelings that make us feel like we are all alone.

I highlighted page after page and made my stars next to those paragraphs that I wanted to revisit. I think I have more highlighting that not! This book is the first book to really address the vulnerable feelings that I have felt my entire life. She shares how she thought a woman at her gym hated her and had this whole dialogue in her head about why. Have you ever done that? I do it all the time! She realized that the woman probably never gave her a second thought, yet she thought the woman hated her. Again, she shares how to get past doing this to ourselves!

That's what I love about this book the most - these are things we do to ourselves because we do feel so unloved and so hurt by the rejections in our life. Yes, some of them are real, but some of them are because we don't want to be hurt again and we are super careful. She shows us how we can really overcome these feelings and trust God and be filled to over flowing with His love and this will over flow into how we feel about ourselves.

I love this book! I think everyone truly should read it that has these feelings of inadequacy. It will seriously change your life - it did mine! I highly recommend this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars!
