Book Review - The Women of Easter

ABOUT THE BOOK:

You’re about to meet three women named Mary, each of whom has a life-changing encounter with Jesus. Mary of Bethany prepares the way for the Lord’s burial when she anoints His feet and fills the air with her perfume. His mother, Mary of Nazareth, remains by His side from His first breath to His last, her loyalty unwavering. Mary Magdalene, delivered of seven demons, bravely supports her Teacher through His darkest hours and then proclaims the glorious news of His resurrection.

What a trio. What a Savior!

Your mind and emotions will be engaged and your faith strengthened as each scene unfolds, preparing your heart for a richer, deeper Easter experience. Liz Curtis Higgs, a seasoned Bible teacher and award-winning novelist, combines her storytelling skills with a thorough verse-by-verse study of Scripture as together you explore the remarkable lives of the women of Easter.

MY REVIEW:

This is such a beautiful book about the three Mary's of Jesus' life that we know about from the Bible. Mary, Jesus' mother; Mary of Nazareth and Mary Magdalene.

As with all Liz Curtis Higgs' books, she writes in a way that pulls you in. She makes it understandable and you truly feel as though you know these women and our Savior in a deeper, more profound, way.

Everything is based in Scripture and she shares the Word of God over and over again throughout the book. It's also a book full of grace and mercy and points to God's great love for us. I also loved all the poetry and writing from great Biblical scholars she tucks in at the beginning of each chapter.

There is a wonderful study guide in the back which brings us into a deeper understanding. It would also make it great for a small study group. It would be wonderful as a study any time of year but is especially meaningful as we come upon the Lent season.

I love this book! It's a keeper on my bookshelf and I intend to read it again. I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
