Book Review - Threads of Suspicion by Dee Henderson

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Evie Blackwell's reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor's Missing Persons Task Force. With so much public fanfare surrounding the launch of this elite investigative team, the political stakes are high, and the team will have to produce results--and quickly.

Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn't be more different. As Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood over the disappearance of a college student, David searches for a private investigator whose last case involved a high-powered client.
With a deep conviction that "justice for all" truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But the questions that lie just beneath the surface in Evie's personal life are also begging for answers.

MY REVIEW:

I could not put this book down! I actually ended staying up until 3:00 am to finish it! This is the second book in the "Evie Blackwell Cold Case" series, but you won't be lost if you haven't read the first book. This book definitely stands on it's own. I read the first book, too, though, and believe me, you'll want to read the first book, too.

Evie Blackwell is an investigator with a new special team that deals with cold cases. They have the best of the best on this team, with each one taking on a cold case that hasn't been solved. For this book, we are taken inside the investigation of a missing college girl and a missing Private Investigator.

Evie is in charge of the missing girl and, the title of this book is so perfect, as she will pull one "thread" of the investigation only to find it leads her somewhere else she wasn't expecting. The same is true for her partner, David Marshal, as he investigates where the PI is. His case isn't quite as complicated as hers, but nonetheless, it's quite complex, too.

I love the addition of the music connection in this story. David is dating a famous singer and it ends up that her concerts are a critical part of the puzzle. I also love their story of faith. He has become a Christian after having a serious accident, but his girlfriend hasn't been able to accept the fact that Jesus truly is alive. This added a really great aspect to the story.

We also see Evie trying to put aside things of her past so she can truly give her heart to the man in her life. I really like her boyfriend, Rob, and how he treats her. I also like that he lives in a world of high finance, yet is trying to always put the Lord first in his decisions. He struggles at times, but again, this just makes the story more real.

This book is over 400 pages long and, for me, this makes it the perfect book. The story is excellent, with so many twists and turns, at times you're not sure where it's going. It's long enough that you truly feel you know the characters by the end and you just don't want to turn that last page. Honestly, in my opinion, everything about this book is perfect and it was such a wonderful read for me. I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of  stars.
