Book Review - The Gospel According to God

ABOUT THE BOOK:

“He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

Often hailed as one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, the prophecy of the suffering servant in Isaiah 53 foretells the crucifixion of Jesus, the central event in God’s ultimate plan to redeem the world.

This book explains the prophetic words of Isaiah 53 verse by verse, highlighting important connections to the history of Israel and to the New Testament—ultimately showing us how this ancient prophecy illuminates essential truths that undergird our lives today.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

John MacArthur is the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, where he has served since 1969. He is known around the world for his verse-by-verse expository preaching and his pulpit ministry via his daily radio program, Grace to You. He has also written or edited nearly four hundred books and study guides. MacArthur serves as the president of the Master’s University and Seminary. He and his wife, Patricia, live in Southern California and have four grown children.

MY REVIEW:

This is one of the best books I've ever read! It was filled with so much information that made me understand who God and Jesus are and it truly made me love my Savior even more.

This book focused on the end of Isaiah 52 and all of Isaiah 53 which prophecies about the death and resurrection of Jesus, plus his glorious reappearing to come. You wouldn't think there would be a whole book of information on just these verses of Scripture, but it's just packed with amazing things about God.

John MacArthur is such a wonderful teacher. He is so Biblical and always makes sure everything is factual. One thing, however, you better have a dictionary at hand because he has one of the most amazing vocabulary of any author I've ever read, except C. S. Lewis. You will not only learn about the Lord but your vocabulary will be expanded as well!

I took note after note while reading this book! There was so much that I learned and so much I wanted to remember! I have read Isaiah many times, but John MacArthur opened my eyes and mind to so much more knowledge in this book. I really did learn so many things and I loved that he explained the important Hebrew words and their meanings according to these Scriptures.

I definitely think this is a book everyone should read who wants to know the Lord more intimately. If you like learning about the Bible and you want true Biblical teaching, you really must read this book! I highly recommend it and give it 5 out of 5 stars.
