Book Review - Lethal Legacy

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Someone wants her family secrets buried–
He’s her only chance to survive

Andrea Wheaton thought her parents’ tragic deaths were accidental—until she’s attacked during a burglary at their home. Now she’s also being targeted. Her ex-sweetheart Sheriff Deputy Bryce Caldwell insists on protecting her, though she refuses to trust him again. But with a killer closing in, can she and Bryce uncover her family’s secrets before it’s too late for them both?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

From medical secretary to court reporter to property manager to owner of a special events decorating company, Carol’s resume reads as if she doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up. But one thing that has remained constant through the years is her love for writing. She currently pens fun and fast-paced inspirational romance and romantic suspense stories. Her books have been nominated for a RITA® award and an RT Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award.

Carol lives in sunshiny Central Florida with her husband, who is her own real-life hero, and writes her stories under the shade of the huge oaks in her yard. Besides writing, she works alongside her music minister husband singing and playing the piano. She enjoys sailing, hiking, camping—almost anything outdoors. Her two grown daughters and grandkids live too far away for her liking, so she now pours all that nurturing into taking care of a fat and sassy black cat and a highly spoiled dachshund.

MY REVIEW:

This is the second book in the Murphy, North Carolina series, however, I was never lost or wondering what was happening. I did read the first book (which I recommend you do, too!) but Carol did a great job in making this a stand-alone book. I am a huge fan of all Carol's books and this story added to my devotion as a fan of her work.

Andrea has lost so much as both her parents have died in a car accident and now she finds herself alone and trying to cope with the fact that she will not see her parents again - leaving so much unsaid and not being able to get away to their country home in Murphy alone with her father as they did so many times throughout the years. After the funeral, she decides to retreat to this home that holds so many memories.

The peace and quiet she so longs for is interrupted by a series of horrible events that makes her question everything she thought she understood about her parent's accident and is also making her question whether she really knew the type of man her father was.

Her next door neighbor in Murphy is her old boyfriend, Bryce. He ended their relationship in a bad way and she's not excited to see him. Her father was like a father to him so he has been trying to help out in the upkeep of the Murphy home. When Andrea shows up, she tries to distance herself from this man but with all the threats coming at her, it's not always easy.

I really enjoyed the mysterious story line of this book. I'm always wondering exactly who is behind the bad situations because Carol writes a great mystery. I also like how she combines the romantic parts of the story without over-whelming the mystery part of it. I always love a mystery so I really enjoy that this is the main theme of this book.

I highly recommend this book (as I do with all Carol's books) because it's a wonderful story with characters you'll remember long after you read the last page. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
