Book Review - When Life Doesn't Match Your Dreams by Jill Eileen Smith

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Only God can heal our hearts

Life is full of twists and turns. Relationships falter, careers fizzle, health fades. We may be faced with choices we never wanted to make or have situations pushed upon us we never expected. Yet in all of it, God is at our side--even when He feels far away.

Drawing on her extensive research into women of the Old Testament, novelist Jill Eileen Smith turns her pen to what we can learn about trusting God from women like Eve, Noah's wife, Sarai, Hagar, Lot's wife, Rebekah, Rachel, and more. You'll discover what these ancient women did right--and what they did wrong--when faced with dashed expectations and deferred dreams. And you'll come away with the confidence that God loves you and is forming you through your trials into the woman He longs for you to be.

MY REVIEW:

I have always loved the fiction books by Jill Eileen Smith so much. They are stories that stick with me and, as much as I read, this really says something about her writing.  When I saw this non-fiction book by her, I knew I had to read it because the title spoke to something in my heart. As I was reading this, not only did the title speak to my heart but each and every word in this book did!

Jill takes the lives of twelve women of the Bible and puts us in their shoes. I actually loved this concept of the book because it made me think about what these women were actually thinking and feeling as they went through the difficulties of their life. I think sometimes I forget that the people of the Bible had the same types of thoughts and feelings that I do in my own life.

As we explore each woman, Jill then explores our own world and how we might feel and navigate through our own difficulties. I loved how she shares her own feelings about disappointments in life. It made me feel as though I'm not the only one feeling the same feelings. I really love how she ties the past with the present and reminds us how God cared for these women and how He cares for us now.

My favorite part of this book was the questions at each chapter. These helped me to really hone in on my own thoughts about my life and what I really believe. They also helped me to strengthen my faith in God as I remembered all that He has done for me.

I absolutely love this book! It's such a gentle reminder to not regret how our life turned out but to remember that God has been in control and cares about us. It was also a reminder to me that I'm not alone in any way in my life. This is a book that every woman should read! I give it 5 stars.
