Book Review - Courting Mr. Emerson by Melody Carlson

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When fun-loving artist Willow West meets buttoned-up George Emerson, it's not exactly love at first sight. More like intriguing project at first sight. Willow makes it her mission to get the obsessive-compulsive, newly retired English teacher to loosen up and embrace life, but even she has to admit it seems like a lost cause.

A confirmed bachelor, George vacillates between irritation and attraction whenever Willow is around--which to him seems like all too often. He's not interested in expanding his horizons or making new friends; it just hurts too much when you lose them.

But as the summer progresses, George feels his defenses crumbling. The question is, will his change of heart be too late for Willow?

MY REVIEW:

I have one word for this book - DELIGHTFUL!! I always look forward to reading Melody Carlson's books and this one is another wonderful book!

I love the quirky character of  George Emerson and his love for solitude and routine. He is an introvert that has his life set to a rhythm that is steady, if somewhat boring, but it's what he knows. He is a high school teacher who has lived in the same house and had the same job for thirty years. As it's time for him to retire from his job, he meets up with the grandmother of one of his students, who just happened to go to high school when he did.

Willow West is the complete opposite of George. She is an extrovert artist who goes with her own style and flamboyancy. She wooshes into George's life and brings with her fresh air and bright colors but George isn't sure he's ready for it all, even though in so many ways it makes him feel more alive.

I absolutely loved the touched of faith that Melody brings into her books. They are so natural and it shows people living out their faith in their every day lives.

There is dilemma and difficult people to keep us guessing about where everyone will end up which made it a real page turner for me. I absolutely love this book and I highly recommend it and give it 5 stars.
