Planning for the New School Year

I can hardly believe that this will be my last year of homeschooling. It is such a bitter/sweet time for me. Homeschooling has been a huge part of my life for the almost 10 past years. I've loved every minute of it. However, it seems that the Lord is truly preparing my heart for new things and I am ready, too, for this to be my last year. I have to tell you, I'm going to enjoy each and every day with my son. I'm going to value each day and try to make each and every day special. One thing I'm definitely going to do it take more pictures of my son doing his school this year. I've never really done that. I took pictures when they went on field trips and did special classes, but I never really took pictures of the day to day activities we did. I'm going to make a point of doing that this year. Here's some of the things we will be studying this year.

First we will be doing lots of Math. This Consumer Math program goes over how to handle your finances, what a mortgage is, buying large items (like a car or house) and most important, budgeting. I wish I would have had a course like this in high school! It probably would have saved me a lot of trouble later on!
My son is still working on Algebra right now, but next we will be going into this course.
Then we will be working on this course. Should be interesting!

We will use this Grammar and Composition Handbook when writing Essays and Compositions and Papers this year. This is a must have. College will require him to do a lot of writing and I want him to be prepared to do what he'll need to do and understand it.
Now for my favorite! I've been looking forward to studying this book for several years!! This past year, we studied American Literature and it was excellent. I know this book will be even more interesting since it will have some of my favorite English authors and stories in it. I'm hoping my son enjoys it, too!

We will be doing other things, too. But these are the books we will absolutely be studying this year. I know it's going to be a huge year for him, but he will handle it well. He has great study habits and that is half the battle. I'm looking forward to this year and all that he (and I) will learn!

My mountain of laundry is now down to a small hill. I ended up doing sheets on the beds and the doggie beds and my rugs in my bathroom, living room and kitchen, too, so that added to my mountain. I'm seeing the end and should be completely caught up tomorrow. Yippee! It's so nice to have everything fresh and clean, though. Totally worth the effort.

I've been reading Ephesians again and this scripture is such a blessing. It is through God's Grace that we are saved! We don't have to do a thing but accept His son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior! Isn't that just amazing? What a loving God we have. God is good - all the time!

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God" - Ephesians 2:8 NKJV

God bless you ~ Julie

  3. Hi Julie,
Wow, your post made me to stop and think, how quickly our children grow. I too need to take more pictures. When will you start. If all of our books get here by Tuesday, the Lord willing we will start this Wednesday.
    (((hugs)))

Sweetums will be in the 6th grade this fall. I can't believe it! I remember starting out the homeschool journey while she was in kindergarten. My but that time has flown!
