Hello. . . Am I listening?

Today I was visiting a blog I visit regularly and left her a message about how God has given her a gift of creativity and that there is only one her and she needs to use her gift!

HELLO . . . Is anyone in here? Julie - are you there? I was telling her the very thing I should be telling myself. I mean, what is wrong with me, anyway?!! I absolutely love to create things. My first love (creatively speaking) has always been art and writing. I love to paint watercolors, draw with colored pencils and just draw. I also love to write, however, honestly, I just love to create art. My question to myself is - how long are you going to put off doing this? How many excuses and how many years are you going to keep putting it off because you feel guilty doing something you really, really enjoy? I'm not sure why I feel guilty - I have my own analogies about this - but those reasons are not valid enough to put off using a God given talent. Period.

So, I actually sat down today and did something! I watched football with my hubby and while I was sitting there, I pulled out my colored pencils and created this
This was done in colored pencils using an old drawing from one of my sketchbooks. Unfortunately, I didn't put the name of this bird in my sketch book, so I have no idea what kind it is, but isn't it cute? I vaguely recall that this is some kind of desert bird. (Obviously, since I live in the desert.) It's not perfect, but I'm so thrilled it came out pretty good and it was so fun to draw again! I intend on getting my watercolors out tomorrow and playing with those again. I'm actually going to frame this little bird. He deserves a place of honor. It's been probably 3 years since I've done anything like this. Since my thyroid cancer surgery, I haven't done anything like this. I don't know why. Anyone care to take a guess? I haven't a clue.

As promised, here are the pictures of the finished pansy afghan. I'm very happy with it, and more importantly, I finished it!! LOL

It's very pretty, don't you think? I don't think I would ever make another one, though. It was a lot of work making all those individual pansies and then crocheting them on there.

I also made this. It's an IPod pouch so I can hang my IPod around my neck and not worry about it falling out of my pocket or anything. I absolutely love this! I'm using my IPod so much more now since it's so easy to just pop that puppy into the pouch and go.
I also made a pocket on the back to put the headphones! Pretty cool, huh?
Here's the picture of the finished cross stitch project I did. You'll remember the last picture you saw, it was about half finished. Excuse all the wrinkles. I haven't gotten it blocked yet. I have looked and looked for the frames that you put together yourself, but no one carries them any shorter than 8" here! I'm going to have to look when I go out of town again. I like to frame my own projects, so having it done just isn't an option for me.
I've started a new afghan, but honestly, I'm hoping I won't be showing you that picture soon, but instead, am showing pictures of my watercolors and other art.

The week in review. . .

First, I had the most horrible doctors appointment of my life. I have been having severe back pain and we had tried Physical Therapy. That made it worse. My Physical Therapist wanted me to go and see my doctor, get a new MRI and get to an Orthopedist or Neurologist. My doctor told me my back isn't that bad and that he forbids me - yes, forbids me - to have any kind of surgery. Really? You forbid me? Hmmm. . . . I think I'll leave that up to the Neurologist. He also said a lot of other things that were horrible, unnecessary, and just downright mean. He also contradicted himself, as he does every time, and that was very frustrating. To say I was upset, is a huge understatement. Anyway, after a lot of argument, he finally agreed to get another MRI approved from my insurance and to send me to a Neurologist. I was up until 2:00 am on Friday night just so upset over the things he said to me. I just want him to get this done so I can get some help for my back and get some relief from this horrible pain. That was the bad part of my week, believe me.

I didn't do a lot this week because I was having so much back pain, but I did get our schedule done for homeshooling and I got my first week of lesson plans done. I grade every day, so make up new lesson plans for the next week on Friday. I learned this from a book by Suzanne Bain, which I highly recommend. You never get behind on your grading and you catch things before they get out of hand, like your children not really grasping a concept. It's so much easier to help them before they've done weeks of a subject only to find that they don't understand it. It's great. So, we will be starting school - my son's Senior year - tomorrow. It's so hard to believe that this will be my last year of homeschooling! Have I said this enough?! LOL

I hope you have a blessed week! Thanks for coming by to visit!

God bless you ~ Julie
