Book Review - Get Back Up

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Life is not always easy or fair for the follower of Christ. Yet, Sheryl Giesbrecht has learned, from the depths of past pain, it is possible to be raised up. It is possible to heal. Most importantly, it is possible to exchange hurt for hope. In her inspirational new book, Get Back Up: Trusting God When Life Knocks You Down, Sheryl tells her own story. She uses scripture to tell the stories of so many other Biblical figures who stumbled before they could be helped up. Sheryl’s message is one of hope. Trusting God in the midst of a life turned upside down is essential to survival. Without Him, life would not be worth living. Climbing out of the pits of despair would be impossible. Yes, with God to lean on, finding hope is possible. Healing is possible. God is capable of taking our losses and mistakes and turning them into something remarkably beautiful. Won’t you let Him?

MY REVIEW:

This has to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. Sheryl shares her heart, the disappointments in her life openly and, like me, I'm sure most of us can relate to the heartache she has suffered. Yes, we all fall down, but Sheryl gives us the Biblical tools to get back up - and with joy!

Each chapter is filled with her own personal story and a personal story from someone else. She takes us on the journey of despair to rejoicing when we allow the Lord to be the center of our life and we see that He is truly working things out in a perfect way. It's not always easy, but with God by our side, we can get back up!

At the end of each chapter she has questions or journaling prompts to help you work through your own hurts that have kept you down. I thought these were especially helpful because she also gave you the tools to put these hurts in the past where they belong. The book is also filled with Scripture that we can rely call on and stand on. There were so many that touched my heart and filled my hurts.

I can't recommend this book enough. If you're a woman who is dealing with hurts, either from the past or in the present, this book is for you! It will give you the keys to starting your road to freedom and help you get back up and live your life with joy!
