Book Review - The Longing in Me by Sheila Walsh

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Do your desires have you going around in circles? You may be looking for fulfillment in all the wrong places.
You vowed you’d never repeat the same mistakes—yet you find yourself right where you started. What is it that keeps drawing you back into the same old traps? The fact is, your longings are built from the blueprint of your needs: for protection, for love, for God. And those needs aren’t going anywhere.
Sheila speaks candidly about the trials in her life, including the heartache of her first marriage, and intertwines her story with the biblical saga of King David. As both Sheila’s and David’s stories make clear, some cravings are misguided, but they all stem from the same hunger—and they will haunt you until that hunger gets satisfied properly.
If you keep reaching out to the wrong people at the wrong times in your own life, The Longing in Me will help you understand that your cravings are not the problem. It’s where they lead you that makes all the difference.

MY REVIEW:

Sheila's book resonated so much with me and I'm sure it will many of you, too. She really shares from her heart and her past with honesty. I loved that she shared so much because it made me realize that I'm not alone in making some of the same mistakes over and over. What I loved most about the book, though, was that she gives us the Biblical tools to move past these areas.

Using stories from the Bible about David and from her own life, she shares how living a life for the Lord makes a huge difference in how we make choices. Like David, the Lord is not done with us either, even when we make those huge mistakes.

She shares about the different longing we have in our life and while I didn't relate to all of them, I did relate to a lot of them and it was so helpful to know that I'm not alone in my longings and that God wants to fill those longings.

One thing I want to share is the devotion based on this book you can do on YouVersion. It was so great and was great doing it while I was reading this book. The devotion has videos you can watch of Sheila sharing from her heart and it made understanding what she's sharing in this book even better.

I'm so excited about this book because it showed me how much God loves me and that I can make stop making the mistakes based on longing if I will just allow God to meet those needs. He is there for us - loving us and filling up those longings with His love.

I loved this book and plan on reading it again! I would also  like to do the study that goes with it. I just love Shelia because she is so transparent and really has a heart for the Lord and for her readers.
